KoffiePiraat.Nl explores the coffee scene in the town that is famous for giltter and glamour.

What are Angelinos drinking?

Looming large over the local coffee scene in Los Angeles is Cognoscenti Coffee. Not only are they a sponsor of the Los Angeles Coffee Festival but they’re also one of the area’s fastest growing cafes. With three locations and many pop-up shops, Cognoscenti has begun roasting their own blends which they serve in all of their locations. They also offer blends from Heart Coffee Roasters and Take Flight Coffee, two local brands.

Cognoscenti’s original location is on the Westside in the Culver City Arts District, a funky little corner of the city that is home to several galleries and artist studios. It’s close to Sony Studios and the Fox Movie Studios.

The atmosphere is laid-back and caters mostly to locals and artists looking for a caffeinated pick-me-up. Like many cafes, people use the space to work but they don’t settle in the way they tend to do in larger cafes so we easily found a place to sit and enjoy our drinks.

Offering drip coffee, pour overs, and a variety of espressos, as well as a selection of teas from Art of Tea and Red Blossom Tea Company. Their specialty coffee drinks, seasonal blends and in-house concoctions are a particular treat.

On a hot summer day, we tried a Snowglobe. It is a layered drink made with cold brew coffee, sweet foam, orange zest, and finished with chocolate shavings served over ice.

The food menu is evolving and offers a range of locally made baked goods and the downtown location has an expanded menu centered largely on breakfast items that pair well with coffee which they serve all day.

All Cognoscenti locations feature a La Marzocco Linea PB, along with a three-group Kees Van der Westen Spirit, Compak E10 grinders for espresso, and a Mahlkönig EKK 43 for filter coffee. Nitro cold brew is also on tap.
