Sustainable coffee at KoffiePiraat

Enjoy your cup of coffee responsibly

The Netherlands is a coffee-loving country where they drink, on average about 3 cups of coffee per day. It’s a big number for such a small country. As a commodity, coffee prices fluctuate and unfortunately, not all coffee farmers get a fair price for their coffee beans. Fairtrade and sustainably focused, organic coffees are becoming more common and now KoffiePiraat stocks a nice selection of such products in our Webshop.

Illy Normal

Illy Coffee is famous for its velvety, sweet, aromatic taste with fruity and floral, caramel and coffee tones. And now, they are a recognized leader in the world of sustainable business practices. The company has put a lot of attention on the environment and believes that quality and sustainability are inextricably linked. Through their fair trade programs, they give their growers a fair price to work with environmentally friendly methods and they use reusable packaging. In addition, Illy was the first company in the world that was awarded the 'Responsible Supply Chain Process' certificate by DNV GL in 2011.

Café club Selezione Rosso coffee beans

The Netherlands is not only good at drinking coffee, but we are also good at producing sustainable coffee. Café club is the Dutch alternative to Italian premium brands. Given the nation’s love of coffee, it’s not surprising that the company has the largest professional coffee roasting facility in Europe. Café Club uses only fair trade beans and all of their products are UTZ Certified, the highest quality mark for coffee. This certification requires that their coffee farmers use fewer pesticides while also ensuring that the farmers have good working conditions.

Mövenpick Caffe Crema Gusto Italiano Intenso Koffiebonen

Mövenpick also offers a sustainable coffee option. The Caffe Cream Gusto Italiano Intenso is a blend of Arabica beans from Central America and Robusta beans from Africa. The carefully selected beans have been approved by the Max Havelaar Foundation. This foundation is responsible for checking the Fair Trade quality mark in the Netherlands. Their approval comes with a focus emphasizing the social element of their fair trade agreements to improve the communities in coffee-growing regions.

Segafredo Espresso Casa coffee beans

If you’re looking for authentic Italian coffee, Segafredo is one of the top Italian brands. The company produces more than 120,000 tons per year and manages their entire supply chain to produce their coffee in-house. This gives Segafredo a unique opportunity to look critically at their production process’s waste streams and energy consumption. This helps, not only the environment but also their bottom line. Segafredo’s founder Massimo Zanetti also established the Zanetti Foundation. The foundation aims to help children in poverty and social isolation. The foundation also supports local initiatives aimed at improving mental well-being. Because Segafredo gives a portion of its proceeds to the foundation, the world gets a little better with every cup of coffee.
