Which country drinks the most cups of coffee?

Coffee has become an indispensable part of our world. It is not surprising that there has been an International Coffee Day since 2014. This day is all about coffee, but these five countries actually celebrate International Coffee Day every day. These are the top 5 coffee drinking countries worldwide. The number of cups of coffee is calculated on average per capita.

5. Austria

1.51 cups of coffee per day

It probably comes as no surprise that Austria is in the top 5. The first coffee house in Europe opened in Vienna in 1638. Coffee was really for poets and intellectuals at that time. Nowadays, coffee is also for the average citizen. On average, the Austrian drinks 5.5 kg of ground coffee per year

4. Slovenia

1.68 cups of coffee per day

Slovenia's high coffee consumption is taken over from Turkey. Turkish coffee is very popular in this country. Turška Kava is combined with milk and whipped cream. This is certainly necessary because the coffee is drunk very strong. Unfiltered coffee is boiled with water 3 times. Sugar is also added at the end.

3. Netherlands

1.84 cups of coffee per day

High in the top 10 is our own country. The Dutch love coffee very much. Most coffee is still drunk at home during coffee time. However, coffee bars or coffee on-the-go are becoming increasingly popular. In addition, the Netherlands also has an important history with coffee in Europe. The first European to bring a coffee plant to Europe was a Dutchman. Pieter van den Broek brought the plant to the Netherlands from Yemen.

2. Norway

1.98 cups of coffee per day

Coffee is very popular in Scandinavian countries. Three countries are in the top 10 of the most coffee-drinking countries and Norway goes for silver. Coffee is drunk several times a day in this country during breakfast, lunch and dinner. Coffee is not only drunk here for the taste or to stay awake: many Norwegians indicate that they also drink coffee to stay warm during the cold winter.

1.Finland

2.64 cups of coffee per day

It is clear that there can only be one number 1. The rightful winner is Finland. Here, 2.64 cups of coffee are drunk per day per inhabitant. That is almost a whole cup of coffee more than the Netherlands. In Finland, there is no special moment for coffee, every moment is a good moment. The coffee beans in Finland are lightly roasted and therefore have a less strong taste. This is one of the reasons that the Finns can drink so much coffee. The average Finn drinks about 12 kg of coffee per year.
