Try these iced coffee recipes this summer
Coffee lovers probably already know: there are hundreds of different variations of your favorite drink. However, not every variation is suitable for the warm summer weather. We understand that not everyone is looking forward to a hot mug of steaming coffee. No worries, because iced coffee offers the solution. This cold drink provides cooling refreshment and plenty of enjoyment during hot weather. These are the tastiest variations from KoffiePiraat.
Caffé in ghiaccio
It sounds more complicated than it is, because caffé in ghiaccio is actually coffee with ice cubes. It's a typical Italian drink from Salento. Although the recipe is simple, it's important to know exactly how to make it. The order in which you prepare it affects the taste of your iced coffee. Brew hot espresso in a glass and immediately add sugar. The amount depends on your own taste. Then, take another glass and fill it with ice cubes. Immediately pour the espresso into the glass with the ice cubes. It's important to remove the ice cubes from the freezer at the last minute. The ice cubes should be as dry as possible because melting cubes will dilute the coffee. This is also why caffé in ghiaccio should be consumed immediately.
Leccese coffee
We'll stay in the Italian region of Salento for a bit longer. Caffé leccese was also invented in this area. This drink is very similar to Caffé in ghiaccio, but has one difference: almond milk replaces the sugar. Then stir well and wait a few seconds for the drink to cool completely.
Espressino Freddo
As you've read by now, a true Italian coffee isn't always served hot. In warm weather, an Espressino Freddo is also enjoyed in Italy. An Espresso Freddo—or a Crema di caffé—is made with coffee mixed with plenty of whipped cream and sugar. It becomes almost a coffee mousse that you have to spoon. The mixture is then kept cold until ready to serve. In summer, you often see an Espressino Freddo served alongside slush puppies in Italy!
Caramel iced coffee
Besides Italian iced coffee, there are plenty of other variations you can make yourself. Iced coffee is also delicious with Monin syrup. One of our favorites is caramel iced coffee. Brew a double espresso and let it cool in the refrigerator. Blend 7-8 ice cubes in a blender with a generous splash of milk and 2 scoops of ice cream. Finally, add the cold coffee and 3 tablespoons of Monin Caramel Syrup to the mixture and blend. Pour the iced coffee into a tall glass and top with a dollop of whipped cream. Feel free to use any other type of syrup!
Iced Cappuccino
Besides regular coffee, you can also make "hot" versions cold. This is no different from a cappuccino. You can always add ice cubes to this drink, but that would be a bit boring. Moreover, cold coffee is often bitter, which doesn't taste good with a cappuccino. Luckily, we're happy to help. Make the espresso as usual and don't let it cool. Whip the cream with sugar and set it aside. Now, combine the hot coffee with cold milk, cane sugar, and ice cubes in a shaker. Shake the coffee until it's cold, which takes about a minute. Then pour the coffee into a glass and top it off with whipped cream. If you like, you can always sprinkle cocoa powder over your cappuccino.
Bonus: Affogato
We have another bonus coffee drink for you. The Affogato isn't iced coffee, but it is perfect for warm weather. Plus, this recipe is incredibly simple. An Affogato involves combining 1-2 scoops of vanilla ice cream with 1 strong shot of espresso. It's important that the espresso is extra strong. You don't need anything more, but you can always add your favorite liqueur, such as Baileys or Amaretto.
