How to make coffee with a French Press
One of the most well-known methods of making coffee is via the French Press. The device (also called cafetière) is handy to take with you, works easily and makes fantastic coffee. But how do you actually use a French Press? KoffiePiraat is happy to help you further in this article.
A lot for the price for little
The French Press is a handy device to make real coffee. You hardly need anything for the robust coffee. You only need the device, ground coffee and hot water. This device does not even use a filter, it is actually an old-fashioned way of making coffee. Nevertheless, you taste all the flavors of your coffee in your cup.
What do I need for a French Press?
Of course, first you need the French Press itself. This device consists of a glass jug, a metal sieve and a lid. In addition, you need hot water (just finished boiling) and ground coffee. That's it, you don't need anything else.
How does the French Press work?
1. Rinse the French Press and place the appliance on a flat surface. This way you can be sure that the hot water does not overflow.
2. Pull the lid/filter up so that it is no longer attached to the glass jug.
3. Place the ground coffee in the French Press. We recommend 2 teaspoons per cup of coffee, but of course you decide how strong you want your coffee.
4. Fill the French Press with hot water. During this step, you will pour it over the coffee. You can choose to gently stir the water into the coffee, but this is not necessary.
5. Replace the lid/filter on the pot, but don't press it yet. Your coffee will become weak if you decide to press the filter through right away.
6. Let the coffee steep for at least 4-5 minutes. The longer you let it steep, the stronger the coffee. However, the water will get cold if you let it steep for too long.
7. Slowly push the filter down. The slower, the better it is for your coffee.
Enjoy!
The coffee from your French Press is ready to use. It is possible that there are some coffee particles in your coffee. To prevent this, you can use coarsely ground coffee. For a French Press, it is best to buy good coffee beans yourself and grind them yourself. This way you get the best base for your coffee.
