Choosing responsible coffee

More and more people attach value to the origin of their coffee. Where does my coffee come from? And how do I choose between the different quality marks? Although these quality marks work together a lot and stand for the three P's (People, Planet, Profit), there are also differences.

UTZ certified

The UTZ label focuses mainly on setting standards for the entire production chain and transparency in this. One of the approaches they use is improving production by teaching farmers to grow better crops with fewer resources, which reduces production costs.

However, UTZ does not set mandatory minimum prices for the coffee, making them more dependent on the market.

Rainforest Alliance

Where UTZ-Rainforest alliance mainly works with large coffee producers, Fairtrade focuses on smaller coffee farmers. In addition to optimizing production, Fairtrade uses concrete, non-negotiable price standards so that small coffee farmers can remain independent. The quality mark was created by coffee producer Max Havelaar .
