Many Italian coffee roasters remain family businesses and this is no different at Caffè Vergnano. The company was founded in 1882 and is now run by the fourth generation of Vergnano. The story of Caffè Vergnano begins in a pharmacy in Chieri, Italy. Domenico Vergnano was busy making coffee in his spare time. In a few years, he became a master at roasting, blending and selling coffee. Soon Domenico had three warehouses in Chieri, Alba and Turin.

Despite the successful start of Caffè Vergnano, the real success came in 1930. This was the year that the Vergnano family decided to buy a plantation in Kenya. This was a very daring step in 1930. With this step, Caffè Vergnano took the entire production process into its own hands.

For Caffè Vergnano, roasting the coffee beans is the most important step in the process. This is the moment where the taste sensation and aroma of the espresso is determined. Roasting the beans is also important for the intensity of the Italian espresso. Each coffee variety of Caffè Vergnano is roasted separately for a unique taste. All varieties are roasted slowly at a lower temperature with cycles of 20 min. In addition, each batch of coffee is inspected separately so that only sublime quality is delivered.
