Walking keeps you (brain) healthy
Walking has become increasingly popular in recent months. And no wonder: 20 minutes a day is enough to give your physical and mental health a significant boost. Walk in the morning before you go to work. Or do as we do: take a short walk during your lunch break. Boring? We are happy to give you some walking inspiration.
Why is walking good for you?
Many of us sit behind our laptops for a long time every day, and perhaps even too long. It is sometimes said that sitting is the new smoking. When we sit, our lower body muscles come under pressure and that leads to poor blood circulation, among other things. You don't always realize it yourself, but sitting too much is bad for your head, your heart, your muscles, your glucose absorption and so on. Our bodies need to move around often.
Walking is the ideal activity for this. You don't need anything for it and there is always a moment to find for it.
For example during your lunch break
Get up, kids to school, get ready for work. Are you back at your desk before you know it? Then go for a 'lunch walk'. Just get some fresh air. Bring a sandwich or walk past that nice coffee shop. Put your phone on silent.
The Coffee Pirate lunch walk
At Koffie Piraat we consciously encourage our crew to take a walk during lunch or a break. Our warehouse is located in Weesp so we are lucky to have the water, the nice streets and yes, even free-range chickens near our building.
Prepared for outside
The weather here in the Netherlands can be quite changeable. Have an extra sweater or a raincoat ready at your workplace that you can put on for a while. And it might also be handy to have some more comfortable shoes at hand.
Alone or with colleagues?
Do your colleagues look at you strangely when you put on your walking shoes? Invite them to join you for a nice walk! It can be a lot of fun to get to know each other better in a different environment. And sometimes you can suddenly solve a stuck issue because you look at it differently or more creatively together outside.
In short, get outside and don't forget to hydrate after your walk.
