Keep your coffee machine clean with these tips
Enjoying a cup of coffee together is wonderful! Coffee machines are therefore an important way to make this possible. Due to the busyness of our lives, cleaning our coffee machine can sometimes be neglected. This can lead to contamination and limescale. This not only affects the taste of your coffee, but also ensures that the coffee machine does not do its job as well. It is therefore important to keep the coffee machine clean. Cleaning your coffee machine is more than just descaling. With these tips from KoffiePiraat you are ready for the most delicious coffee.
Descale the coffee machine
Descaling your coffee machine is the first step to keeping your machine clean. This prevents the machine from breaking down. The machine heats up faster and uses less energy. In addition, the coffee tastes a lot better. KoffiePiraat advises to descale your coffee machine at least once every two months, even if the machine does not indicate it. Have you not done it in a while? Then you should definitely do this soon.
Clean parts regularly
When cleaning, people often only think of descaling. Descaling only removes limescale residues that are created by using water. However, the natural fats and oils of coffee beans can cause blockages. In addition, these fats can also have a negative effect on the taste of the coffee and you don't want that, of course. Everyone deserves a good cup of coffee. The solution is very simple: regularly wash the loose parts of the machine. These parts can simply be put in the dishwasher. For example, you can think of the drip tray, water trays, metal plate or the container for the coffee grounds. Don't forget to clean the inside of the machine as well. With filter, cup and pad machines, the fats remain in the cups or filters and you therefore do not have to clean the inside of the machine.
Don't forget the brewing unit
Your coffee machine is used often. This is of course not strange, but do not forget to clean the brewing unit regularly. Coffee residues remain in the brewing unit and are a breeding ground for mold. Of course you do not want that in your coffee machine.
Fully automatic machines usually have a removable brewing unit. You can remove this brewing unit from the side. Hold it under lukewarm water and clean the brewing unit thoroughly with a (tooth)brush. Do not use soap and let the unit air dry. If you dry it with a cloth, lint may remain. Once the brewing unit is dry, you can lubricate the moving parts and seals. You can also empty the bean container and degrease it with a damp cloth.
Bonus tip: The milk parts
Do you like a special cup of coffee? Then you probably add milk and/or foam and that also needs to be maintained. Do you have a machine with a milk frothing function? Make sure you clean the milk parts thoroughly. The natural fats and lactic acids can damage the inside of the machine.
A separate milk reservoir should be cleaned with soapy water after each use. For the difficult parts, it is best to get a special milk cleaner. This will tackle the greasy milk residues inside the system.
