Read here how to make your own Cold Brew at home
What is it?
Cold brew coffee is not the same as iced coffee. It is more like the younger, hip sister. Iced coffee is brewed warm and then cooled, while cold brew is ground coffee mixed with cold water, then left to steep in a sealed container for 12-24 hours, and then filtered. This also creates a difference in taste: cold brew is softer and sweeter in taste than iced coffee.
How do you make it?
Let's be honest: you can't make a good cold brew coffee in 5 minutes. So you better start on time, since it has to steep for at least 12 hours. For example, make it in the evening, so that you can take it with you to work in the morning. You can make your cold brew in a glass jug or large pot.
100g quick filter coffee, 900ml water, sealable bottle/jar, filter bag
5 min preparation, 24 hours waiting time, 10 servings
Put 100gr of quick filter coffee in a jar or bottle with a capacity of 1 liter. Fill the jar with 900ml of cold water and close tightly. Shake a few times and let it sit for 24 hours so that all the aromas from the coffee are absorbed. Shake the coffee again after 24 hours and pour through a paper coffee filter (in a filter holder for convenience) into a measuring cup. Clean the bottle and pour the coffee back into the bottle. Due to the low acidity, your Cold Brew will keep for at least a week in the refrigerator.
Serve over ice cubes, with milk and sugar if that's your thing. Enjoy your intense soft sweet coffee taste at home, at work or on the go.
Variations:
Add a little Monin syrup such as the Hazelnut or Chocolate flavour.
It's also nice to use a scoop of vanilla ice cream in your ColdBrew instead of ice cubes.
