Dallmayr: a royal cup of coffee!

Behind every cup of coffee there is a good story. This certainly applies to Dallmayr coffee. The German brand has been producing high-quality coffee for over 300 years. The company can therefore truly call itself a coffee expert. At KoffiePiraat we are also fans of Dallmayr. Read the special story of this company here.

A real cup of history

Dallmayr is no stranger to the coffee world, you could even call them an old hand in the business! The Munich brand was founded in 1700 and has been known for its specialties for 300 years. In 1870, the new owner Alois Dallmayr gave it the name it still bears today: Dallmayr Coffee. Alois Dallmayr in turn sold the building and the associated shop to Anton Randlkofer in 1895.

A woman at the helm

When Anton dies just two years later, it is his widow Therese Randlkofer who takes over the management of the company. At Koffie Piraat - which also has a woman at the helm - we are not surprised by this. In Germany at that time, however, it was not customary for management to be in the hands of a woman. Therese Randlkofer proves to be very capable. The company grows and in 1900 is already one of the leading delicatessen houses in Europe. At that time, Dallmayr was a purveyor to the Bavarian royal family and the German imperial court in Berlin. This history ensures that Dallmayr still wants to offer top quality always and everywhere. It is not for nothing that it is a royal cup of coffee.

Quality is in the ground

Dallmayr Arabica beans always come from small family businesses in Ethiopia. These beans form the basis for almost all types of coffee in Dallmayr. The African country has an ideal combination of climate, fertile soil and a high altitude. The cherries of the coffee beans are harvested wild from the jungle or come from small plantations. Dallmayr's experts are in close contact with the farmers. This way they know for sure what quality of beans is ultimately in the cup of coffee. Dallmayr only buys the highest quality coffee that has been carefully picked. These coffee cherries are washed in a special way so that the unroasted coffee tastes even better.

Away with large plantations

Dallmayr is a family business and feels a great responsibility towards their employees. This is the reason why the coffee company does not work with large plantations. In this way, they can sustainably support the entire environment. The company also makes a concrete effort to improve living conditions in Ethiopia and Tanzania. Through the right collaborations with the Almaz and Karlheinz Böhm foundations and the Jane Goodall Institute, Dallmayr really makes a difference. It is not surprising that the products have a UTZ Certified, Organic and Fairtrade quality mark.

Like Douwe Egberts?

Do you remember the Douwe Egberts commercials? Dallmayr has just as iconic commercials in Germany. Entire generations know the television commercials with the unmistakable Dallmayr melody. On YouTube there are a lot of videos of people playing the Dallmayr Prodomo melody on the piano or guitar. KoffiePiraat even found a metal version of the melody [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxtPYr_CgXM]. The current and historical Dallmayr commercials can all be found online;.
